Code of Conduct

Below is a guide to our studio policies and code of conduct. By registering for a class at Powerhouse, you acknowledge the below and agree to respect and abide by these policies. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

Studio Etiquette & Procedure

Arriving

  •  Check in with the Class Manager at the front desk before heading into class.

  • Arrive on time to limit distractions for Instructor and other dancers. If you are late, you will be allowed to enter, however, we request that you make a best effort to arrive on time.

  • Place your belongings in the cubbies inside the studio and hang your jacket on the coat rack. If there isn’t space in the cubbies, please put your things along the wall with the ballet barres.

  • If you arrive after class has begun, or you are re-entering the studio, please wait to enter the studio until an appropriate time to minimize distractions (ie, if dancers are doing a run-through of the choreography with music, wait until that is complete before walking into the studio).

    • If you arrive during warm-up, you may enter, however please find a spot in the back or side of the room.

    • If you arrive after warm-up or after stepping out in the middle of class, please wait to reenter until music and/or dancing has paused.

  • During snowy, rainy or muddy weather, please do not wear your outside shoes into the studio. Please bring a change of shoes to help protect our floors.

During Class

  • Spacing.

    • Please stagger in lines and make windows so every dancer can view themselves in the mirror. Be mindful of dancers behind you who are looking for a spot to view themselves in the mirror. You may need to slide to the side a bit to give them a window.

    • If you are in the front line, please don’t have too much space between you and the dancers you are next to, in order to allow for the row behind you to have a window.

    • Use all of the space in the room. Move forward, especially if it is a full class, in order to allow the dancers behind you to have space.

    • If the choreography travels significantly to one side of the room, re-center yourself after working on that section to prevent the dancers on the side from being too close to a side wall.

    • If you are in the front row, please start forward (in front of the pole) so dancers can fill in behind you.

  • Respecting your fellow dancers and Instructors

    • We love the community and social aspect of Powerhouse! However, still try to keep chatter to a minimum especially during the learning portion of class and when your fellow dancers are dancing in groups. Feel free to socialize during water breaks and before / after class or quietly during class.

    • When your fellow dancers are dancing in smaller groups toward the end of class, please give them your attention and refrain from chatting or watching videos on your phone during this time.

    • Please cheer on and clap for the dancers in the room before and after they dance in small groups to show your support!

  • Filming: See guidelines below.

  • Do not bring anyone into the studio who is not taking class. Any friends or family members waiting for you are welcome to sit in the lobby. If you have a child waiting in the lobby, please ensure they are quiet and have headphones for any devices. They are not permitted to roam the hallways. Please check on them periodically as our staff will not be able to monitor them at all times.

After Class

  • If another class is taking place after yours, please gather your belongings and exit the studio to the lobby as quickly as possible to help classes stay on schedule. If you have to change your shoes, please do so in the lobby.

At all times, we expect that you will speak to and treat our staff and fellow dancers kindly and with courtesy and respect.

Filming in class

We allow and encourage filming in any Powerhouse class when you break into groups towards the end of class. However, to ensure this is done in a way that remains respectful to your fellow dancers and Instructors, please:

  • Wait until 2nd round of groups to film.

  • Wait until the Instructor is finished talking before setting up your phone or asking a friend to record you. If the Instructor is giving notes or teaching, please do not set up your phones at that time.

  • Set up your phone as quickly as possible so it does not eat into class time.

  • If you’re asking a friend to film, please do so quickly and quietly.

  • If filming from the front, please crouch or sit. Do not stand and block the mirror.

  • Please wait until after class to watch videos, rather than watching while class is going on.

  • We do not allow anyone who is not taking class or who is not a Powerhouse team member to come into the studio and film.

  • If you post the video on social media, please give credit to the Instructor/Choreographer.

  • If you don’t wish to be the behind the scenes videos taken by a Powerhouse Class Manager, let them know upon checking in.
